What is your favorite childhood book?

My favorite childhood book was The Secret Birthday Message by Eric Carle. Every time I read it, I felt like I was going on an adventure. I made secret messages with my sister just like the book so we can go on adventures around our house.

What is your secret talent?

My secret talent is I know how to dress in Kimono. It is a traditional outfit from Japan where I grew up, but many people don’t know how to dress in it on their own anymore. I had to learn to get dressed in it by myself after I came to the United States because my aunts are not here to help me put it on!

Who was your favorite teacher in Elementary School and Why?

My 6th-grade teacher was my favorite elementary school teacher. He was positive and warm. I had a wonderful last year of elementary school because of him.

What is your favorite thing about teaching?

I love that I get to share so many “Light bulb moments” with students. While some learning feels like they happen out of the blue and spontaneous, I know that young children are gathering information and solving problems throughout the day, using all of their senses. I just love that I get to be a part of that process.

What is your favorite subject to teach and why?

One of my favorite subjects is Literacy, especially dictating their own stories, writing letters, and/or making books with students. I love our youngest of students to know that what they have to say is important!
